What is the difference between the russian B429 fuze and the B429-E fuze please?
Citat:
"...Fuze B-429 and B-429E
Are head fuzes of shock action, safety type (with isolation of a cap-detonator from a detonator), with distant erection. Fuzes have the identical device, differing from each other only the separate details providing correct action of detonators at shooting from various artillery systems.
Fuze B-429 completes shots with fragment, Frag-demolition and demolition shells of calibre of 85 mm and more. Detonator B-429E completes shots with frag-demolition shells to smooth-bore tunk gun..."
I think t he diferents in safety device - in "E" it is not on centrifugal principle...
Yes, correct the difference is in the type of safety device, it also has switchable Delay.
The B-429E is completely recoil operated. This is realized first with a back-shifting pin, which releases an rotating plate (operated by a flat-spiral-spring). This plate is positioning a detonator directly over a hole which is connected to the booster-charge. A second mechanism in the fuze Head is made of a back-shifting element and two balls which are releasing the striker. Images will follow later...
Anyone here knows wheather these two fuzes could be fired with the protective cap in place? For adding some extra delay?

Hi Everybody!
I can add to this topic the following:
V-429 (see the pic)
The V-429 fuze was intended to gun ammunitions listed bellow:
- 85 mm fragmentation (O) and fragmentation-demolition (OF) shells;
- 100 mm fragmentation-demolition and smoke (D) shells;
- 122 mm fragmentation-demolition and smoke shells;
- 130 mm fragmentation-demolition shells;
- 152 mm fragmentation-demolition shells;
It is paralell used with th RGM-6 fuze, and it can replace all fuze type from 85 to 152 mm
It can set:
- superquick (fragmentation effect) = setting schrew in "O" and cap is removed;
- set back (demolition effect) = setting shrew in "O" and the cap held in place
- delayed (demolition effect) = setting schrew in "3" and cap held in place;
- ricochet = setting schrew in "3" and the cap is removed
Safe type fuze. Arming method is 5-7 m from the gun muzzle. The extra in this fuze - compared with the before fuzes (RGM-6, RGM-2, etc) - the waterproof constuction. It reached by the sealing rubber rings (2; 34; 7), the no 30. plate and the burning time regulator of the delay powder no 38. Due to this extra the water cant stream to the fuze inside so it can certainly functioned at richoclet fire on/in water and swamp.
V-429E (see the pic)
It is almost the same like V-429. Used in the following tank gun ammunition:
- 115 mm fragmentation-demolition shells;
- 125 mm fragmentation-demolition shells;
The difference is the no. 13 countersafety piece. It is needed because these tunk guns are smooth bore and their ammunitions are fitted with fins. When the fired ammunition meet the drag the wings are fold-out and increased the resistance. The shell give a quik brake effect. Inside the fuze the armed superquick mechanism can move ahead the setbeck weight with the primer no 28 - with the original shell welocity and hit the primer to the pin. But there is the countersafety piece which stopped this movement.
The other features are the same as V-429
V-429VIt is used in the 125 mm tank gun fragmentation-demoliton shells. Same like V-429E but the setting cap is not fitted by thread. It is fixed with a safety-pin with a ribbon. It is much easy and time save to remove.
All of this three fuze is the same hit mechanism and bore-safety mechanism. All has aluminium centrifugal detonator worked by spring.
Delay action is 0.027-0.055 s

Thanks a lot everyone. Thats a great help to me. I have both a B249-E and a B429, but wasn't aware of the existance of a B249-V - I knew a bit about 125mm FRAG-HE rounds but didn't know what fuse they took. Now I shall look out for one too. Thanks again! :D

Citat from www.vorkuta.ru/shado/Statii/Analitik/Tanks2.htm :
Though fuze B-429E has installation on moment fragmental action, use of this installation(without a cap) is supposed only in unusual cases, and during a rain or a hailstones in general is strictly forbidden, becouse it is very sensetive without a cap. Shooting with dressed cap and use inertial straiker leads to significant deep dug of a shell in a ground before explsion and, as consequence, to occurrence of a "dead" corner and sharp decrease of fragmental action.
thx Poroch ;-) now it is clearer....

and here iss, what we are talking about...
