View Full Version : 9.4cm (3.7 inch) unknown AZ
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 3.7 INCH HE SHELL FOR THE BRITISH AA GUN
HOWEVER THE FUSE IS UNKNOWN TO ME.
IT LOOKS LIKE AN AZ 23 SAME ZINC INTERIOR ETC.BUT NO DELAY SCREW
AND ENGLISH THREAD TO FIT THE SHELL.
DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ON THIS FUSE?

Images would make an identification of this fuze much easier.
X is right! pictures do help. My firts bet , a No.117 on top?
Perhaps it is a KZ 28 P. See http://blazeold.ath.cx/viewtopic.php?t=1044 . I have seen one somewhere with finer thread, pressumably for the 9,4 cm Flak (e). If I am correct it is the Preßstoff-version of the naval KZ 28 (E Kzdr C/28 ). Perhaps Zünder can see if there is a delay screw present in his fuze.
thanks so far everyone
I will add some pictures this week
But it's not an british No117 or No221 for sure
there is no brass involved just steel and zinc

You might be lucky. During the escape from Dunkirk, the BEF left large ammounts of artillery behind in France. Amongst them numbers of 3,7" Flak Guns. The Germans Highly appriciated the 3,7 inch and went as far as to produce 100.000 round af HE ammo in 1942, of course threaded for German fuzes. As far as I can remember the shellcases were Steel made, either reused Brass shells of Brittish make. In the last case, and with captured Brittish complete rounds, all stamping were "deleted" and replaced by German markings.

The german manufactered shells have one FEW drivingband, but they are not threaded for german fuzes, they are fitted with the standard brittish thread.
Hi Greif, as I stated " you might be lucky". So he is not.
I did not know these shells had FEW drivingbands and standard brittish thread. Maybe someone has a picture of one? I would be more than interested.
Greetings , Pzgr40
One dutch collector known to me has an 9.4cm HE shell fitted with 2 FES driving bands and
standard german thread.
