I have heard on several occasions that towards the end of WW2, when wolfram was in short supply, some German AP ammunition was made with uranium cores.
Apparently some 1,200 tons of uranium ore had been collected for the nuclear programme, and was available for other uses.
I have also heard that a radioactive PzGr.40 shot (I think 5cm) was found not long ago.
Can anyone confirm this use, and explain if and how the ore was processed in any way?
