Cutaway model of an 8,8cm SprGr. L/4,5 Kz (Kurz) mit eingegossener sprengladung (8,8cm high explosive shell L/4,5 with cast charge) for the 8,8cm Flak gun M18, M36 and M37.
The projectiles body is of the same type as the 8,8cm Spgr. L4/5 mit brandladung A (8,8cm high explosive shell L4/5 with incendiary bushing type A), see: http://blazeold.ath.cx/viewtopic.php?t=833.
The main difference is the explosive charge, in this case either a 0,74 kg charge of pressed TNT, or a 0,785 kg charge of cast TNT, without any cartboard or aluminium bushings.
Booster housing type 13 E 2402 (Mundlochbusche) is screwed in top of the projectile. It houses the Gr. Zdlg. C/98 (Boostercharge C/98 )
A seven mm thick layer of magnesium resign (white) in the base of the projectile acts as an extra gastight seal beside the lead gasket between body and baseplug.
In this case the projectile is fuzed with a Zt.Z.S.30 Fg.
Weight of complete projectile, including the fuze Zt.Z.S.30 Fg: 9,0 Kg.
A 30mm high black plus, stencilled on the outside of the body, is the regognition mark for a projectile with a magnesium kit layer in the base.
In the lower picture the results of the fragmentation -a WW2 US army test- can be seen.
