I have one of these in my collection, and also some ballistic details (at home). If I can work out how to publish a picture, I'll do it!

Hi tony,
you will find a "Post Reply" Button on the left lower side of your screen, just klick on it.
In the "post a reply"screen that follows you will find a "Bilddatei/Picturefile" part, just klick on the button there, locate the picture you want to add and confirm your choice.
Klick on submit reply, and that's it !

OK, let's give it try!
If this works, the MG 131/8 is the little one in the middle. A quiz question for you; what are the others? The four to the left are American, the ones to the right are German.

O.K., let's see:
12,7 x 99 (.50 BMG)
12,7 x 120 (.50 High Velocity)
12,7 x 114 (.60/.50 )
15,2 x 114 (.60)
13 x 64 (mG 131/8)
13 x 92 (MG 215)
15 x 83 (MG 215/15)
30 x 85 (MK 213/30)
What do we win ?;)
Gut gemacht Zünder, hätt ich auch gesagt.
Mmh die rechten drei hätt ich gerne, schöne Stücke.
Especially the 3 cm looks great.
But is it a MK 213/30 ?

Six out of seven, Zunder, but the 3cm is actually the 30x91 for the Mauser MK 212, which I believe was an unsuccessful competitor for the MK 108 (size, weight and rate of fire were about the same, although the muzzle velocity was a bit higher). The case is a replica made from factory drawings but the projectile is genuine; it is the same size and weight as the M-Geschoss in the MK 108, but seated more deeply in the case, so the driving band is further up.
I have some more German experimentals somewhere I must dig up and photograph to confuse you, now I know how to do it!

This is fun !+3q
How easy is it to create a replica off cases like these, is it expensive ?
Can we expect fake cartridges in the future or present ?
Tony, is your 5. cartridge 7,9x81,5 ?
but it is not that 7,9x64! :)

hi tony, I am the same opinion like hammer, the case looks too long. +8q
also ich würde auch sagen das es eine 7,9x81,5 MG131/8 ist.

Yes, the cartridge measures 7.92x82B. However, what matters is the overall length of the cartridge, as this determines whether or not it will work in the same gun action.
As you can see from the photo below, the 7.92x82B is the same overall length as the 13x64B, so both will work in the same action.
I have also added an experimental beltless 13x64 to the photo.

It is not easy to create fake cartridges and they tend to be expensive. They come in two types: ones which are marked as replicas in the headstamps, and ones which are designed to fool people. Unfortunately, there are some of the latter around...
