Hello,

Some time ago, I purchased a full case of Russian WW2 45mm anti tank rounds, the fuzes(KTM-1), can be unscrewed from the projectile and there is no filling in the projectile,or in the shell case.

All the fuzes have the bottom hole(sorry, don't know the technical term!),punched out(again, empty),with the exception of one,on which the hole is still solid.
Please can someone let me know if this fuze is safe/inert,or do I have to start worrying!?

Here are some pics.
All help appreciated!
Kind regards,
Andy

Thanks DJH.

So, If I've got this right, all there is in the fuze I have is a firing cap?

Is this ok or is it dangerous, sorry to ask,but I haven't been collecting ordnance for long!?

Kind regards,
Andy

Hi Andy, yes you are right. It is the small red cap you can see between the windings of the spring , in top of the spring. It has no big potential hazard and is about the same strength as a .50 calibre shellcase firingcap.

Many thanks everyone!

Is there any way this firing cap can be safely removed?
I can't open the fuze as it is stuck, possibly corroded inside.

Or is it best left alone?

Kind regards,
Andy

Just leave it. As long as there is no tampering; no danger.

As long as you see the hole on the bottom is closed by the inertia weight the fuze is safe. The primer and the pin can't reach each other.
