Hello,
I have had this in my collection and never got round to identifying it.

Please could someone let me know the correct designation?
Also,is the projectile seated correctly,or should the driving band rest against the top of the case?

All help appreciated!

Kind regards,
Andy

The driving band should be against the case.

I'd always assumed that the crimps on the case were supposed to fit into the groove/channel that is towards the bottom of the projectile,or am I totally wrong here?
(I have been known to be wrong a couple of times in the past!)

I also remember a fellow collector mentioning something along these lines too.

Well, the projectile is for the 37x102SR case and not this one here which is a 37x94 regular German navy Hotchkiss.

- I have an identical 37X94R Navy German shell case made of brass in 1902 [see the headstamp photo at my topic "1902-German Shell Case" posted at "Ammo before 1919" forum]. According with the headstamp markings, my 37X94R shell case was made 5 months after your shell case [in August 1902] and the number stamped at 6 o'clock [lot number or quality control mark] is different. Hi Andy

The driving band is not always close to the case . It may be like on your picture . Because the groove of the shell must be in the groove of the case .

Please see the excellent 2 books : FLAK ww1 where you see all the flak ammunitions and the 37mm with explications on the variations about the cases and driving bands .
