View Full Version : 4 cm Bodenzünder
hat jemand eine Ahnung wie die 4 cm Bodenzünder wirkt, sie dient zur Zündung der leuchtspursatz der 4 cm Spgr. L/4,5.
Besonderes an Schnittzeichnungen waere ich interessiert.
Does anybody know how the 4 cm Bodenzünder works, it was used to ignite the tracer in a 4 cm Spgr. L/4,5.
Iám particulary interested in cut-away drawings.

Hi Salamon!
Here is two type 4 cm tracer-fuze. Both of them made by Hungarian manufacturers. The first is the "original", probably it was a Svedish design. The second is a modificated version. The igniter powder charge can't reach the free air therefore it can be storage longer time. This type intend to the non-threaded base HE shells because the earlier version powder charge take in to the screw upper end. It was difficult.
In Hungary both of them called: 36/40M base fuze, old model and new model.

Yes what you say is correct, it is a Swedish design and called officialy by the German Army the "4cm Bodenzuender" which refers to the Swedish design and not to the tracer plug with the "ignition system" as shown above - note the different designation. Except this the "4cm bodenzuender" was not threaded and only pressed into the projectile base where it was pushed out again after firing.
The design above is already a German variation for the new designed 4cm HE Shells.
The 4cm Bodenzuender was used only in the original Swedish pattern shells that were produced by Austria, France, Czechia, Poland and Hungary (at least) when they were connected/occupied by the Germans. Due to this the first German coded shells produced in this counties were of the "old" pattern and were replaced by the German design later in the war due to easier manufacture and use of iron rotating bands and other Fuzes (KZ40 for the HE and for the APHE the BdZ 42 or the BdZ 5103).
The impact fuze for the "old" pattern which was copied together with the 4cm bodenzuender was called KZ38.
Thanks for the detailed pic, GuardianAngel :)
