This is a Russian 45 sec. Double Action (time/percussion) fuze, made in Tula Cartridge Works. Was used for example in 107 and 152 mm shrapnel shells.

Hello Pommikas,

the "TPZ" Logo (ПТЗ) is the Tula factory? Do you know if the TSZ (СТЗ) is also Tula? I found it on a 22 Second Fuze.

Sorry, I have no information about TSZ. May-be some Russian friend can help?

Thanks very much Jhonni!

Any idea what the brass 'bar' securing 2 of the rings is for?

Cheers,
Andy

Hello Andy,

the rings are connected to rotate both rings together. This gives a larger value of adjustable times.

If we assume that on a 45 sec. fuze with 3 rings each ring has a max. delay time of 15 sec. and only the lower ring would be adjustable, the possible time that could by adjusted would be from 30 to 45 sec. If both the lower and higher rings are adjustable (together) the time that can be adjusted is from 0 to 45 sec. Try to immagine the way that the flame passes through the fuze...

ciao, Alpini
