Hallo,
I wonder what the letters VR on the driving band of this 37mm Hotchkiss (?) mean.
The projo should come from Russia (see also my fuze ID thread).

the marking are very similaro to these observed in italian shell, but it seems that your shell is longer than usaual.
measures of italian shell
total lenght: 96mm
driving band 30mm
lower portion between driving band and base:16mm

Hi,
The length of the front ogive up to the driving band is 48mm, driving band 30mm, from driving band to base 20mm, total 98mm (all aprox.)
Diameter at base 36mm, over the driving band 38,7mm.
Please note the condition of the projo.

I guess nearly anyone could sell the ammo to the russian empire.

It looks like a French "steel grenade Hotchkiss" which were used in Russia ...
