Hello everyone :)
I have recently been reading a lot about the 8.8cm guns deployed by the Germans during WW2 and the projectiles they fired. However I cam across some confusing stuff; The weight of the Pzgr.39 APCBC-HE projectile.
Some sources state it weighed 10.2 kg while others say 10.4 kg. At first this confused me abit, but then I read that there were different types of the Pzgr.39 projectile; The Pzgr.39-1 & Pzgr.39/43. The difference mentioned between these two was the driving bands, but I suspected the weight was different as-well. So I had a fellow collector who actually owns a Pzgr.39/43 projectile weigh it, and the result he got was 10.41 kg. (Added weight from rust or ?) And this result is awfully close to the 10.4 kg mentioned by some sources.
So my question is this, was there any other difference between the Pzgr.39-1 & Pzgr.39/43 other than the driving bands ? Like the shape and size of the penetrator etc etc ?
Best regards,
Wulfram :)
