Hi guys,

i got this 7,9x57 round i cannot figure out.
It seems like the first 1 mm of the top is chopped off and then sealed again.
Green ring around the case's mouth, colour on primer ring looks brown(ish).

Headstamps: S* 24 36 P25

Does any of you know what kind of round this actually is ?

Thanks in advance. ;-)

hallo

This was a heavy pointed 'schwere Spitzgeschoss' bullet for tropical service. Loaded with 2.88gms of Nitrozellulosegewehrpulver 'Nz.Gew.P.', these bullets could reach a muzzle velocity of about 765 m/sec. Cartridges were sensitive when temperatures rose in tropical service and care was taken to seal the joint between the case and the bullet, eliminating air and moisture from getting into the case.

Thanks for you're answer.
the paintmarkigns seem to match a s.S., but what about the chopped off tip ?
I've looked through the books, but found no similar s.S. rounds.

In my opinion, this is not an s.S.-tropical. Originaly, it was a common s.S. round which is reloaded or refurbished (new primer seal and case mouth seal) after the war for hunting, that's also why the tip is cut off.

The tip got ground off due to legal restrictions on FMJ ammunition many years ago and probably in future again.
