Hi Forum!
I have some problem about this caliber: Austro-Hungarian 8 cm M5. As you can see in the drawings below the fixed (semifixed) ammunition case lenght is: 284 mm. But you can also see a "8cm M16/Wurf" case with full charge. It is 230 mm long.
My questions is:
In which cases was used the M16/Wurf case?
What kind of shells?
Why they use a shorter case? Why wasn't good the long one?

Hello Guardian Angel,

the "Wurf" Case is shorter because it was not delivered as "fixed amunition". The missing length is the length which a shell is fitted into a normal (long) case -> see my image!

The short case was build for high-angle firing, which needs cartridges with seperated charges to adjust the shooting distance. The german word "Wurf" = "throw" in english stands for shooting in a high angle.

I hope you did understand it...
