Browsing in the forum , I found this nice posting about Boys cartridges, and remembered I have one as a cutaway. So Here the picture. The spagetti in the shellcase is about .25 mm larger in diameter than the original powdersticks should be according to the datasheets, so think a few sticks more.

The one in this picture may be closer to the real thing:

Hi Tony , it appears to me that the projectile on your cartridge is shorter than on mine . The projectile on my cartridge is 59 mm, I suspect the length on yours must be about 48 mm . Am I right? With regards PzGr40

Correct - mine is the W Mk II version which fired a lighter projectile at a higher muzzle velocity. Yours is the original W Mk I.

Hallo PzGr40

In your pickture from the cut away from the .55 bays had the core a "stripe". Was that through making the cut away or is that original....?? The cut aways I have in my collection have no "stripe" !!

Hallo Pzgr40

Hi Ammo shark, I checked it , there are two stripes each at 180 degrees. I suppose they are left by the machine that pushed the rod of steel forward in the lathe, while pointing the projectile. They are however made before the carbon steel projectile was hardened, a normal sow blade would not make a cut like that in a hardened projectile. With regards Pzgr40

Thanks for your reaction and if you have more of them, please let me know. I have several cut aways but non off them has that stripe.
